Set in the rustic interiors of Uttar Pradesh, the show traces the journey of Sarojini - a strong, well-educated girl who gets married into a family with a regressive patriarchal set up - a household governed, dominated and practically ruled by her over-bearing, chauvinistic father-in-law Dushyant! Refusing to cow down to his controlling ways like the rest of his bahus, Sarojini takes the challenge head on and strives for a healthy balance of power and influence in the household, leveraging education to her advantage.

A well mannered, straight forward, smart and vibrant girl studying in the fast paced city of Delhi. She is not scared of taking stand for what she thinks is right.
Mohit Sehgal as Somendra
He is Dushyant's younger son. A spoilt brat, he is least interested in studies and is famous for his Casanova charm. Though he never listens to his father, Dushyant loves him and pampers him the most.
Pankaj Tripathi as Dushyant Singh
Dushyant is a powerful man. He is a corrupt politician, an ill-mannered landlord and is so evil that even the villagers are petrified of him. He treats the women within his family as puppets by completely dictating their lives.
